Experiential SPACE
Escuelas
pal pueblo
A community impact tour for the documentaries La Guerra Contra Nuestras Escuelas and El Último Timbre on a tour of the Puerto Rican archipelago.
COMMUNITY TOUR
ABOUT THE TOUR
Both documentaries explore the impact of the closure of public schools and the government's attempt to privatize education from the context of the imposition of the Fiscal Control Board after the debt of 73,000 million. Our intention is to co-create spaces for dialogue about the fight to save public education and raise the various ways in which communities have and continue to take action.
Given the historical situation in which we find ourselves as a country after the implementation of the PROMESA Law, hurricanes Irma and María, the earthquakes, the pandemic and the Debt Adjustment Plan, it is urgent that we reclaim what is ours. One of the sectors that has been most affected by these events is the human right to education. In 2022 we are facing an uncertain panorama with threats of new closures to our schools and the deprivation of a dignified retirement and fair wages for the Puerto Rican teachers. It seems urgent to us from the cinematography to broaden the voices of those who have fought to protect and rescue our schools from their communities.
